Updating garmin nuvi 350
I did this as I read some other comments that the Garmin webupdater application has (in some cases) caused corruption.I ran the firmware update as per the instructions from the Garmin website and two files copied to the unit but the third file (I can't recall the extension) failed to copy with a file in use error.Thankfully, no buttons were placed along the bottom since that area is out of reach when mounted in a vehicle. I’ve never really understood Garmin’s reasoning for doing this and I’m glad that the new 200 series dropped this antenna style. The GPS chipset inside the “flip-up” antenna is the legendary Si RFstar III chipset.I could not work out a way to recover from this as the upgrade failed (not fully complete) and the only option was to reset the unit via the power button. When the unit came back up again the following error came up on the screen: "system software missing" The Nuvi would not boot! HOLD down the power button and you will see "Pre Boot Mode" appear on the lower part of the display.
You will also find that the Nuvi 350 is very light and compact.
It doesn't have to be empty, just needs the free space. Format it in your camera or a friends camera or bring it to the store where they display digital cameras and stick it in one and format it.
You can also format it from the SD card reader in Ubuntu, but I don't know the exact commands.
It took some experimentation and several tries, but I was able to install the complete map on SD with both of my nuvis.
Both nuvis operate correctly with ALL of the NA map data on the SD card.
